Founded in 1868, Wayne State University is a nationally recognized urban public research university, offering more than 370 academic programs through 13 schools and colleges. Its mission is to create knowledge and prepare a diverse body of students to excel in an increasingly complex and global society.

Wayne State’s research expenditures place it among the nation’s top 50 public universities, and with more than 1,000 students, the School of Medicine is the largest single-campus medical school in the country.

Reflecting its campus location in Midtown Detroit and its excellent international reputation, Wayne State boasts the most diverse student body among Michigan’s public universities. The university’s nearly 28,000 students come from nearly every state and 60 countries to attend classes on the main campus in Midtown Detroit with 100 buildings over 200 acres, and at its six extension centers throughout Southeast Michigan.
