TEACHING and LEARNINGMichigan’s greatest resource in the global economy is going to be brainpower, and the University Research Corridor produces great young minds for tomorrow’s workplace like nobody else. Each year the University Research Corridor schools produce more than 15,000 people with bachelors degrees and more than 9,000 with graduate degrees, in addition to 600 doctors, nearly 1,000 lawyers and 1,400 business professionals. (See the details in the By The Numbers section of this website.) Together, the three research universities offer approximately 900 undergraduate degree programs, and 600 graduate degree programs, plus a host of non-degree and mid-career training opportunities. We also provide nearly $750 million in financial aid each year to help young people reach their goals and get the education they deserve. In fact, 70 percent of the graduate and undergraduate students at U-M receive some form of financial aid. The schools of education at each institution are also aggressively exploring new ways to improve science and mathematics education in K–12 to build a better foundation for tomorrow’s knowledge workers. To help Michigan stake its claim in the global economy, MSU offers more than 200 international programs, sending 2,500 students each year to more than 60 countries on every continent, making it one of the three largest undergraduate study abroad programs in the country. The University of Michigan offers 80 different study abroad opportunities, and Wayne State University has 37. With great size and a long history, the three institutions of the University Research Corridor have approximately 1 million living alumni all over the world.
